青年手记:Serving the Community During COVID-19

Hi friends, my name is Belle Huang and I will be a senior this fall at Harpeth Hall. I love sports/ outdoors activities, traveling, all forms of expressions (art, piano, and music), meeting new people, and learning new things. More specifically, over the past six and a half years, golf has grown to be one of my greatest passions. Though physically and mentally challenging, golf has largely contributed to my character development. During practice, I strive to perfect a series of meticulous mechanical movements that need to be repeatedly combined, and timed well, with a small margin for error. Additionally, as each round requires four to five hours of carrying a golf bag for six to eight miles, it has always been physically and mentally challenging to maintain a steady game. Regardless of rain, scorching heat, or freezing temperatures, I have learned to solely focus on my game and not be hindered by unfavorable conditions. Especially after a rough shot or hole, I have developed the ability to maintain my composure and optimism and focus on my next shot. Through self-assessment and assistance from my coaches and parents, I have learned to overcome many challenges.

In addition to extracurriculars, I seek out involvement with my community and school. I serve as the founder and president of two clubs at my school, a business and finance club, along with a technology and programming club. I founded these clubs because I want to help educate my peers about what I believe to be important life skills and knowledge. Gaining school approval to establish these clubs took tons of time and effort, but having a detailed plan helped me reach my goals. I have also learned that successfully organizing meetings and speakers take more work than I expected. From publicizing speakers, multiple reminder emails, and organizing details of ideal meeting times and locations, I have had to heighten my organizational skills.

I am excited for GNCA’s future potential and cannot wait to serve our Nashville community together!

What I have done during COVID stay at home:

Experiencing such an unprecedented time, it has been crucial to stay at home and adhere to safety precautions. During this time, I have strived to take advantage of additional free time to pursue my goals, discover other methods of safe socialization, and help my community. For example, I have had extra time to organize future plans for my clubs at school and pick up new hobbies including skateboarding and design. I also sought out opportunities to serve my community; through donating facemasks to hospitals and meals to police precincts, I strived to show appreciation for the dedication and bravery of our community’s essential workers. Regarding personal development, I have been spending additional time to improve my golf game and participate in statewide tournaments. Furthermore, as senior year is coming up, I have been working on preparations for college applications. Although this pandemic may seem like an adverse time, it is important to hold optimism; after all, we will most likely never have such a long period of free time to pursue our interests and goals.
